John Cameron
b. c. 1698
John Cameron was born in Kilmonivaig parish, which is a very large parish stretching from Lochaber across towards Rannoch. His son Donald was baptised on 16 May 1730 at Bohuntine in that parish. The mother’s name is not recorded — the only marriage found for this John Cameron names his wife as “Mrs John Cameron”.
Glen Loy was one of the lands disputed between the Macintoshes and the Camerons for over three hundred years. The area was occupied by the Erracht branch of the Cameron Clan throughout this time. That is why Duncan’s mother remembered a descent from the Camerons of Erracht: this is the country the trail points back into, even though the last two or three generations of proof were still missing in 2011.
