Spent a few hours today thinking about a tent for Patagonia. Don't need expedition tent as only out for 3 days max at a time. Given ferocity of weather in Patagonia it needs to be very strong to withs...

At the end of October 2025 my wife and I head back to the town of El Chalten in Patagonia. Its a place we have visited on six previous occasions. This time however we shall not be venturing onto the v...
There are some amazing online & Management apps out there. I've tried most of them. As I get older & focus more on reducing pack weight, I realized that none of the existing solutions quite fit what I...
For some reason I've not heard of the material, Polycryo until a few weeks ago. Some good reviews though so I just bought a Gossamer Gear Polycryo groundsheet. Tough, lightweight and relatively cheap....
About to head up into the mountains. Camping next to a lake in the cool air at nearly 3000 metres, under the stars, sounds attractive. Heading against the grain as all the day trippers will be leaving...

@TimKStanton @khusky don't quite know how the new Durston Mid-X 2 did it really. Full on storm conditions (thunder, lightning, hail, gale force winds) all night and we were relying on a new tent held...
Test ... tracking @khusky and the morning dog walk from my home laptop using radio network and the repeater on my rooftop. Interesting possibilities for hiking and backpacking in groups?
@TimKStanton I've heard good things about that tent. I find that with two people comfort, especially on the bad days becomes paramount and having that extra space really helps. And I guess, that weigh...
@Ali The Samaya 2.5 is very expensive, but would be a solid expedition tent as there is plenty of room for 2 people + gear.
@Badgardener I had one of those Tadpole's too, a very good tent. I also remember lugging a 4kg Terra Nova Quasar for 12 days around the Patagonian Icecap. Stood up to 100km winds. Gone are those days...
