That was a good morning's work ... getting set up and installed on laptop and mobile with a repeater on the roof terrace powered by rechargeable battery/solar
Just installed on an old laptop with Gnome DE, as I saw an article and quite a few people recommending it this morning. Bit of a learning curve but quite a different and exciting way of package manage...
@Ali Missed you. Glad you are back. What instance? Mastodon, GoToSocial etc?
@[email protected] It's one reason why I opened a GoToSocial site. It has up to 5000 words (or more actually). Also large image upload limit. Problem I have is I don't have that much to say on it...
@[email protected] @vwdasher its the Fediverse Book Club! https://bookwyrm.social/ I read every day so might just be tempted to have a looksee
I'm a technology tinkerer. Not great at it, certainly not an expert, but I enjoy it. Time now to separate my adventures from my mountain/real life ones. The two don't really go together. To that end I...
@immarisabel I like your website and blog. Also how you have integrated a microblog/snippets. Following on RSS

New lithium batteries for our solar installation. Thanks to my mate Pepe for putting it all together. Need a few more solar panels now!
@tapasinthesun I'm at a similar stage as you I think. Not quite seeing the benefit of Pixelfed and struggling to differentiate between two Fediverse accounts.
@hikingdude following you now from my own mountains.photos pixelfed account now too
@tapasinthesun in my mastodon app the image couldn't be loaded for some reason. I could see it via Pixelfed
@tapasinthesun me too! Still haven't quite worked out how to run the two (Mastodon & Pixelfed)
@tapasinthesun I am in a similar dilemma. Just opened a Pixelfed account as I like the interface. Really don't want duplicates so it's a question of how to utilize. One benefit of Pixelfed is you can...
@rscottjones @bergmeister @jds it does and I totally agree. But, Pixelfed is more of an Instagram type interface and limits.
@jds I did an introductory post on Pixelfed yesterday. Like you I wasn't too sure how to split between there and mastodon. Now decided to post memories and images from the past on Pixelfed. We'll see...
@jerzone I struggle with exactly the same quandry. I have a well established Mastodon account but really like the idea of using my mountains.photos (Pixelfed) account too. But why would I? Don't want...
@hikingdude I do love RSS! Have a look at FreshRSS which can be hosted very easily (just php) in an existing website folder. Works really well, you're on there too 😃
@Jennifer @hikingdude nothing is free Jennifer but using a Synology NAS all your computers can be backed up and available in the cloud. It's all in your hands but of course you have to buy and deploy...
