Room with a view! I've often wondered what stories this old house has to tell.
Was out yesterday with my 50mm prime lens. Sometimes called a "Nifty Fifty", this lens has a fixed focal length of 50mm, so you cannot zoom in nor out. These type of lenses are generally not only cheaper than zoom lenses, they are lighter and of good quality too. I guess due the simpler nature of their construction.
Today we have been enjoying views like this. The small, traditional village of Alcazar in the Sierra de Contraviesa backed by the snow clad mountains of the Sierra Nevada
Here's a more "normal" night shot of my town, Lanjarón, under the stars. The constellation of Orion to the top left and the Pleiades to the extreme right.
So once again this valiant Comet hunter ventured out into the cold morning air. This time with all body extremities warmed up. Gottcha! Found Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) towards the north east. Couldn't be seen with my binoculars, but the camera managed to. Hopefully next week it will be brighter and easier to spot.
So very nearly achieved the impossible this morning. Managed to slow down the water in the shot, whilst at the same time trying to slow down your dog so that he doesn't move for 20th second! Very difficult on a dog walk 😀
Sometimes it's hard to believe that I live just over 200km from Africa! After some much needed snow here is the Cerro de Caballo (3009m), Tajos Altos & Lanjarón Valley #SierraNevada#Spain#mountains#snow#photography#landscape
Been enjoying putting together a simple #Eleventy project with #simplecss, a very quick, small, classless CSS framework that makes semantic HTML look good.
Photo from a few years ago ... Some of the most difficult ski touring I've ever done, whilst attempting the peak of Klyuchevskaya Sopka in Kamchatka. Here, trying to negotiate the rocky and volcanic dust laden glacier. Almost like a scene from a SciFi movie.
I just love the smell of moody olive groves in the morning! Especially those cold and fresh winter mornings when the sun is low in the sky and the shadows are long
My daughters sent me this from #Iceland this morning. They at travelling the Golden Circle around Reykjavik. Looks incredibly beautiful, but extremely cold

Me and Cerro Torre! The closest I ever came to this magnificent mountain, a sight that will live long in the memory. Of course, to get up there I'd need helicopter assist 😂 #Patagonia#Mountains#CerroTorre
I run my own small, personal Mastodon instance and my federated timeline tab doesn't update very quick, certainly nowhere near as quick as when I had an account with a large instance. Is there a server step I have missed and failed to complete? #mastodon#instance#federation#federating
Spain scraps value-added tax on staple foods in aid package
Spain on Tuesday announced a new series of measures including scrapping valued-added tax on staple food, such as bread and milk, and is extending rent and eviction controls to help ease the economic crisis.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the measures in an end-of-year speech. The government said it would also cut VAT on cooking oil and pasta from 10% to 5%.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to you all. Tonight we shall be having a quiet New Years Eve, tucked up in front of the fire and TV, with this lovely bottle of wine 🍷
I'm not a wine snob, I buy my wine from El Campo, Mercadona, Carrefour etc like most others, but in the 1990's I became quite partial to Henschke wines. Based in the Barossa valley in south east Australia this vineyard consistently produces quality rich and fruity wines. Salud! #wine#newyearseve

Yesterday we met a lovely couple from Indonesia and showed them round some hiking trails above Lanjarón. They obviously enjoyed their experience of the Alpujarra. Only afterwards did we realise that the diminutive, softly spoken, lady was a top media anchor for news in Indonesia, with 23 million Instagram followers! I have none by the way, as Facebook is the only Zuckerberg owned software I allow (occasionally) into my life 🤣🤣🤣

Been back in the UK to see the in-laws and family for Christmas. Cities aren't really my thing, but I did enjoy a visit to the spectacular Lichfield Cathedral #photography#churches#lichfield
Difficult one. The AWS screws it for what I would suggest which is self hosted Ghost + Eleventy SSG. Have a look at Flat File SSGs. I've tried Grav and Kirby before but there are plenty others
6 episodes in and #TulsaKing is proving to be Stallone's best work in years. After 25 years in Prison Stallone's character is out & ready to take back the life he missed. Great one liners and decent action. Worth watching
Let me introduce you to my two dogs, Rita and Arko. Rita is a bit of a mix and Arko is a husky/malamute cross as far as we can ascertain. Both lovely dogs and good hiking companions. #Dogs#dogsofmastodon
Just taken delivery of a Volla Phone 22. A minimalist cell phone that has been de-Googled and replaced with (android based) Volla OS. It's a very different interface to what I'm used to.
Looking forward to using it and letting you know, in due course, what I think of the revised OS and the phone's performance.
Definitely committed to #mastodon now as have set up our own family server. Simple process and reasonably priced using the excellent hosting service at @ossrox. #Migration from old to new was simple and painless too.
Massive lenticular clouds forming over the peak of Kamen on the Kamchatka peninsular
We were there to ski tour and summit Klyuchevskaya Sopka (4754m) but the -30C+ temps and 100km/hr winds made life very difficult. Of course, we didn't summit, not even close, but a great experience nevertheless.
For 10+ years I've survived without Microsoft and Apple. Now it's time to de-Google and de-Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) my life and head for the hills
