With Christmas on the horizon, the Nomads had our pre-Christmas walk followed by a lunch at La Pizzeria in Capileira.
There was a noticeable lack of enthusiasm as the members gathered at the Mirador Tajos del Angel above Capileira. The weather was fine and the views glorious. Normally the Nomads are chomping at the bit to get hiking. Today it seemed that hiking was definitely secondary to a few beers and a meal.
We set off, rather reluctantly, up the long distance GR240 path and entered the narrow valley of the Barranco del Cerezo. Emerging from the valley at the large *alberque *we heard that glorious sound of running water. Water was coming down from the Acequia Alta and teeming down the small arroyos over a series of streams and cascades. Music to our ears.
Eager to get to our lunchtime destination, we cut short the intended route, up towards the Hoya del Portillo, and opted instead for a gently descending forest road. I was worried at this point as the two hour intended walk might well turn out to be just over an hour! Bearing this in mind, I slyly cut through the untrodden forested hillsides as we traversed back to the cars.
The lunch was a delight with good food, company and cold beer. Happy Christmas to all the Nomads, thanks for the companionship during 2022 and see you all for another year of adventures in January.
