@TimKStanton nice idea but this can only use Long Range radio signals (LoRa). It only confirms my location at any point in time via satellite. Wouldn't think proprietary Garmin software would be very interested in connecting anyway, they want you to use Garmin Messenger or Garmin Explore.
I can send and receive messages/location points or be tracked from up to 12km away at the moment, however I am extending my mesh network monthly by adding repeaters to hilltop locations.
