@[email protected] I believe so too. When I first went to the Patagonian Icecap in 2006, we had no gadgets, just compass and map. In fact the only published map was 1:250000, far too big, so I made my own 1:40000 maps from satellite images and tried my best to calibrate them. They were then laminated and used for 10 days out in the wilds. Great memories. The later expeditions I did there weren't anything like the same as we had GPS, Sat messengers etc by then
