A few photos from yesterday's very tough and tiring but ultimately exciting and enjoyable romp around Las Buitreras del Durcal. Amazing, spectacular scenery and just 20 minutes drive from home. N.B This is a tough hike and only suitable for those with a head for heights that have confident and secure footwork.

The deserted forest
Some cracking views of Mulhacen 3482, highest summit in mainland Spain, surrounded by building cloud. 10 minutes after we took this the whole range was covered in thick gray cloud
Early start on a new hill today. Alto Calabozo 1651m. Small in stature but bags of character. No trails, just a few cairns, goat tracks and bushwhacking to negotiate. It's obvious not many come here. The reward is the view south to the Sierra Nevada.

Using an old laptop to revisit Fedora 38 Linux desktop. Always liked this os but it seems to have come on leaps and bounds since I last used it. Very polished performer. Enjoying getting to know it again.

Possible bad weather up high yesterday so we kept it to a low, short hike. The Ruta Peñuela Forestal in Lanjarón. Who knew such a treasure existed and so close to home. Early lunch in the bar though 😂

After the rain has gone
Today we are guiding a couple on Mulhacen. After a poor winter, snow-wise, it seems like things are looking up towards the end of May! 😂 Photos show the summit and clients descending the west flank to spend the night at the Refugio Caldera shelter which can be seen looming out of the mist. It's still winter folks!
Had head down coding most of the day. Once you get into it it's almost meditational and robotic, so very therapeutic. Anybody else find this? And, then I get to a stage (10 hrs later) where the head just won't function and I need to shut off. This bit happens quickly. So, it's wine and pizza time 🍕 🍷
Klyuchevskaya Sopka 4835m and Kamen 4575m from the near the col just SW of Vulkan Sredniy 2978m. I had just made my way across the plateau from our base camp between the two mountains. It's a white and thoroughly unforgettable place and one day I would love to return but it's a harsh place when the weather turns.
