Change is in the air so I’m going back to the writing desk again. Yes, after 3 years in the creative doldrums and backwaters it’s time to put pen to paper. Why stop in the first place? My last post here was in February 2015. Up to then I used to write articles each week, not only for myself (this blog) but also writing articles and trip reports about our Activity Tours in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Yes, 44 years is a long time, as long suffering England fans will vouch for. They are not far behind, as its 42 years since they last won anything! Our Bavarian friend, Herbert, still smiling! Anyway, Spain deservedly won Euro 2008 last night beating the dogged Germans 1-0. We were in our local bar in Lanjaron, the Flower Bar. As you can imagine the whole place went mad!
Friends David and Aspen Edge at Semilla Besada above Lanjaron, have always argued that, one day, due to the high cost of fuel, tourists will stop coming here, food prices will rocket and there will be petrol shortages. A big argument to get started on the road to self sufficiency? Well, it seems to have started! PRESS RELEASE Granada, Spain, - 7th April 2008 Spanish Highs Mountain Guides appointed location advisors for new horror movie to be shot in the Sierra Nevada, Spain. The photographs and images seen on the Spanish Highs Mountain Guides website proved an irresistable inspiration for film company Familia Films. Helmed by Rebecca Sharpe and set to go into production late in 2008, the movie is a psychological spinechiller set in the Alpujarra and Sierra Nevada mountains of Andalucia.
Just had some exciting news! I’ve had a meeting today with some producers of a travel programme who work for Sky TV. They want me to do a couple of days shooting with them. The star of the show, apart from me of course, is “ Curly Watts” (of Coronation Street fame). During the shoot I’ve got to teach him ice axe and crampon techniques then falling down an ice slope and hoping he brakes and doesn’t keep on going, abseiling off frozen waterfalls, snowshoeing, snow climbing and some rock climbing up a mountain summit to finish!
Tragedy In The Sierra Nevada. A warning that these hills are not benign as it sometimes seems - especially in the Spring - came on 5th/6th May when there were 3 deaths, 1 comotase victim and 6 injured in varying states of hypothermia. All in one incident! The party were all from Holland and contained 10 women and 1 man, all led by a female Dutch guide. They had booked a trekking holiday with a Dutch company called “Intertrek”, who had run tours to the Sierras for a few years.
